Laid off Dana Corp. worker looking to get union dues back. ?
I was working at The Dana Corp. in St. Clair, Michigan and have recently been laid off. After the first six months of employment through a staffing agency, we got hired in through Dana and were required to start paying union dues to the UAW local 771. Per the union contract we were considered non seniority employees until we worked another 6 months with the company. Once seniority employees we would have full benefits of the union. We were laid off last week after working at Dana for 11 months. One month shy of being hired in of course. My question is, can we be repaid our union dues from the union since we never made it to seniority status and were never able to use the union, short of the ability to immedietly terminate us due to lay off.
