Why does it seem that we are still mourning and giving attention to 9/11?

It has been 8 years and we are still showing much sorrow. It seems that the more we do this we are just letting Osama know that he has done what he wanted. The media is saying that we have only gotten stronger from this attack but come on that is nowhere close to true. Now a tower wants to be build as a monument to a homicidal madman. The more attention we give it the more bin laden sits there and smiles knowing he got the job done. I also dont see why we dont give moments of sorrow to the innocent civilians in Iraq that have died by or hand in some way.
