In the Qur'an God is described as الوارث al-waarith meaning the Heir, from who or what does God inherit?

You can inherit from somebody who came after you. For example you could inherit your son (God forbid). Alwarith means Allah will inherit everything (the universe) after all living creatures die so everything returns to him and only he remains.
